Anthony Lombardo, 46, of Bristol, was sentenced to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assaulting a federal officer on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, the news release states.

Lombardo drove to the James A. Byrne U.S. Courthouse located at 7th and Market streets in Philadelphia on the day of the incident, according to the news release. When he arrived at the courthouse, he brandished a large kitchen knife and approached a security officer who was on patrol around the outside of the building.

When Lombardo ignored the officer's request to drop the knife, the officer shot Lombardo, the news release states.

An injured Lombardo then began fishing around in the left-hand sleeve of his jacket, according to previous reporting by Daily Voice. The guard shot him again, subduing Lombardo and sending him to a nearby hospital for surgery.

First responders who provided aid to Lombardo found a second kitchen knife in his shirtsleeve and makeshift body armor on his chest and midsection, the news release states. Authorities initially thought the makeshift body armor was an explosive device, the previous Daily Voice report states.

After he was released from the hospital in February 2023, Lombardo was charged with assault on a federal officer and was turned over to US Marshals, according to the news release.

Lombardo was on state supervision at the time of his arrest after being convicted for aggravated assault on a police officer in 2006, the news release states.

He waived prosecution by indictment and entered a guilty plea on Monday, May 6, according to court records.
